Mingoes bounce back to pick up NPVA win over Lady Techs
The University of the Bahamas Mingoes women's volleyball team defeats Lady Techs in four sets Friday night at D.W. Davis Gymnasium.
The Mingoes started strong, giving Lady Techs a fight for their money in the first set, but unfortunately they fell short, losing the first set. The Mingoes came back looking for vengeance.
Winning the next three sets back to back to over all win the match: 24-26, 25-22, 25-17, and 27-25.
As lady techs failed to turn over the ball numerous times, the Mingoes took this opportunity to continue having lady techs trapped in their corner.
Throughout set Patrice Ferguson used Lady Techs to her advantage, gaining UB a lot of points by playing smart ball and locating spots where Lady Techs clearly wasn't ready for with her well-executed dinks and powerful full hits.
As well as lead sever #11 with many strong, consistent serves that Lady Techs fail to pick up and turn over.
Trailing right behind the Mingoes captain Shanyhah Bowe with her powerful hits all over the court.
The final set belonged to The Mingoes, and everyone in the gymnasium was on their toes waiting to see the outcome.
The Mingoes and Lady Techs went head-to-head constantly out of deuces and advantage. With both teams having serving hit and passing errors along beautiful plays with great passes, wonderful sets, and brilliant attack plays, It only matters now who wants to win the set more. Did UB wanted to win more and to end the game in only four sets, or was Lady Techs up for the battle to win the fourth set to go to the fifth set and fight again? The UB Mingoes stayed on top against the Lady Techs, winning the fourth and final set, proving they wanted to win more.
The Mingoes had a tough lost in there first set also resulting in losing their caption due to an injury on the court.
"Our strategy for this game was to protect our middle and sever, and break there serves right away" Zarria Rose said. "After the lossof our caption, we really had to adjust because she is one of our best hitters and rally for her."
Davanna Douglas said the team needed to warm up to get the win.
"The first set was a bit shaky," she said, but in the end the put it together the walk away with the win."
