Mingoes draw 1-1 against Baha Jr. in BMSL
The University of The Bahamas men's soccer team was back in action at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields and came away with the 1-1 draw against Baha Jr. F.C in the Bahamas Men's Soccer League (BMSL).
Scoring the lone goal for UB was forward Philip Pilgrim. UB's head coach, Alex Thompson said that Baha was highly competitive in the match.
"We were forced to start with an 11 that was affected by a few things - not our strongest 11 but the expectations remained the same which was to get the job done," Thompson said.
UB got off to a slow start in this match as they had trouble attacking Baha's goal. UB got some shots but were off-target. The 25th minute saw Baha breaking down UB's defense and finding the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead.
Trailing at the half, UB went into attack mode in the second half. Forwards Nahum Johnson and Pilgrim along with midfielders Clerdjivensky Clerjuste and Kevin Thomas were knocking on the door but Baha defense and goalkeeper stood firm. Pilgrim found the crack and scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute off his right foot just outside the 18-yard box.
"We were trailing and was looking for at least a draw," Pilgrim said. "They want to win. The goal was there to take and I took the shot and scored to equalize and try get the lead."
Pilgrim was fouled in Baha's 18-yard box minutes later and UB was awarded the penalty-kick. Thomas stepped up to take it but it hit the left post and Thomas had a second strike on the rebound but the goalkeeper made a brilliant save before Baha cleared the ball out of danger.
The match finished 1-1 as both teams came away with a point each.
UB sport a 6-0-1 win/loss/draw record and sit at the top for the table with 19 points.
The unbeaten UB plays a pivotal match when they take on second-place United FC at 4.30 p.m. Sunday, January 18 at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.
