The University of The Bahamas Mingoes men's basketball team put on a show for their fans as they handled the Customs Department Taxmen 99-63 Homecoming victory at the Kendal Isaacs National Gymnasium on Friday.
Terrance Higgs played like a man possessed as he finished with a game-high 30 points and nine rebounds. Kevaro Russell had 16 points while Jerehemiah Miller and Shemeco Albury scored 14 and 12 points respectively. Alex Minus got 11 points off the bench.
"We came out strong offensively. We attacked them and gave them no breathing room," Higgs said. "Our plan for the Homecoming game was to come out on their neck and get our other guys to get more playing time and get everyone on the court."
By time the fourth quarter rolled around, UB was up 67-51 and looked comfortable. The fourth quarter saw Higgs, Russell and Miller getting up for some rim rockers as the crowd got more involved. They won that quarter 32-12 to guide their squad to victory.
"The second half was more of a connection with the starters," Higgs said. "It only takes one person to get going – if I get going everyone feeds off that energy and all of us just keep going."
UB got off to a strong start in the first quarter when Higgs connected from deep to cap off a 20-0 run with 4:15 left in the first quarter. They led 22-2 and comfortably led 25-14 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter had UB keeping the intensity up by not allowing the Taxmen to come within seven points. Higgs put UB up 42-29 with 37 seconds left in the first half that ended 44-30.
The Taxmen were led by Warren Miller who had 18 points and nine rebounds.
UB travels to South Florida to get their International Tour underway on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 against United International College.
