Mingoes win four-straight matches in NPVA action
The University of The Bahamas women's volleyball team picked up their fourth straight victory in the New Providence Volleyball Association action on Friday, January 9 at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium.
They easily took care of the Setsy Poppers in three sets winning 25-13; 25-13; and 25-17. UB was led by veterans Anjeniker Joseph and Zarria Rose with 14 points each. Joseph scored 13 of those points attaching while Rose had 12 points from her serves. Rose was happy they started off the calendar year in the win column.
"This is just momentum for the other upcoming games," Rose said. "I was locked in on my service in the second set to give my team the space and comfort. I wanted to give the team the lead."
The first set saw UB taking control early on with an 8-1 lead. They went up 16-6 and ran away with the first set 25-13.
UB was in full control in the second set with a big help from setter Rose whose serve gave them an 18-1 lead. UB took their foot off the gas a little as the second set ended with them winning 25-13.
The third set saw UB having to work harder as the Setsy Poppers took an early 8-7 lead. UB powered through and took the 16-13 lead before they won the set 25-17 to take the match.
Roberta Hudson led the way for the Setsy Poppers with two points.
UB now sport a 4-2 win/loss record on the season.
UB will look for its fifth consecutive win with a tough matchup against Lady Panthers at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 18 at D.W. Davis Gymnasium.
