Mingoes fall to Warhawks in straight sets
It was a tough 3-0 loss for the University of The Bahamas women's volleyball team against the Warhawks Thursday at the Kendal G L Isaacs Gymnasium.
UB fell 28-26, 26-24 and 25-19 in what was one of their strongest showing in the UB Volleyball Showcase.
The first set got off to a competitive start as UB held a 6-5 lead. The Warhawks kept it close in the middle of the set but UB took the 18-17 lead on a Miracle Stubbs service point. UB went up 23-20 before the game was tied 24-24. Mingoes took a 26-25 lead, but Warhawks tied it at 26-26. UB ran out of steam as Warhawks won 28-26 to go up 1-0.
UB got off to a hot start in the second set going up 7-3. Warhawks came back and trailed 10-9. It was a back-and-forth game in until Warhawks got a 23-21 lead. Anjeniker Joseph service point gave UB the 23-22 lead. The set was tied 24-24 but like the first set, UB was unable to score anymore points in the set with Warhawks winning 26-24 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
It was a tough start for UB in the third set as they got into a 9-6 hole. After UB closed the gap a little to make it 16-14, Warhawks pulled away to go up 22-16. UB did not make a comeback and Warhawks won 25-19 to win the match 3-0.
Next up for UB is a battle against Spikers Tuesday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
