Mingoes T&F women close out International competition at USF Meet
It was a strong meet for the University of The Bahamas women's track and field saw some strong performances at the 2026 University of South Florida Invitational in Tampa, Florida on Saturday.
Head coach for the team, Ednal Rolle said the team had a great meet.
"The females did exceptionally well," Rolle said. "Brianique (Strachan) our top sprinter she ran personal best in the 100 meters (m). The 4 x 100m relays team ran a season and personal best breaking the ones they set in Daytona, Florida. Deamia (Bowe) set a personal best in the 100m. I like this meet as there are several NCAA Division I schools and it is very competitive. They had the step their game up and they did."
Breaking the school record was the 4 x 100m relay team that comprised of Deamia Bowe, Brianique Strachan, Deja Major and Kendera Munroe. The quartet clocked 47.50 seconds to finished 11th overall and first in their heat.
Strachan got two individual personal bests to end her international season on a good note. She powered her way to a personal best of 11.80 seconds to win her heat. She placed 12th overall. It was the second time this season that she set the school record.
"I got up too quick instead of driving further so I can finish strong with my top speed," Strachan said. "I was expecting more. I have to aim to run a lower time but I did not execute as well but I still got through the race."
Bowe ran 12.19 seconds and Major ran 12.42 seconds in the 100m. Bowe was 31st and Major was 39th overall.
Strachan then broke the school record in the 200m running 24.90 seconds to place 34th overall. She won her heat. Bowe ran 26.19 to finish 55th.
"From the start of the race, I had my mind on running 24 seconds," Strachan said. "I wanted to get off the curve because I am normally lazy on the cure. I jus kept my arms wide and open and tried to stay relaxed as I crossed the finish line."
Michal Bullard and Marquell Newbold competed in the 400m dash. Bullard ran 59.87 seconds to place 44th overall and Newbold ran 1:01.64 to place 45th.
