Strachan, Mingoes bag wins at DC Invitational

Brianique Strachan won the double in the open women 100 meters (m) and 200m for the University of The Bahamas Mingoes at the inaugural Devynne Charlton Legends Invitational on Saturday at the Thomas Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

Ednal Rolle, UB's men and women's track and field teams said that he saw some improvement at this meet.

"The athletes are now rounding into form and shape. Besides the cold weather conditions, I think they performed well. The women's 4 x 100m team did well along with Strachan."

Strachan sprinted her way to a time of 12.36 seconds to win the 100m. She came back to cross the finish line in 26.28 seconds to win the 200m. Three other UB sprinters were in that race. Deamia Bowe was second in 26.63 seconds. Tianna Bootle was third in 27.84 seconds and Marquell Newbold was fourth in 27.14 seconds.

"I was relaxed," Strachan said. "The performance was better than the last time I ran and I appreciated what happened today. The UB girls are strong and push each other."

The team of Bowe, Strachan, Deja Major and Kendera Munroe placed first in the open women 4 x 100m relay. They stopped the clock at 48.30 seconds.

UB had two teams in the open mixed 4 x 400m relay. In the end, the "B" team of Jason Ferguson, Marquell Newbold, Lhevinne Joseph and Tianna Bootle was second in 3:57.59. The "A" team of Culmer, Bowe, Jackson and Strachan ran 4:16.53 to place third.
