Mingoes secure wins at DTSP meet
It was just their second competition of the season but the University of The Bahamas women's track and field team was able to pick up wins at the DTSP Wolfpack Track and Field Classic on Saturday at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.
Kendera Munroe ran her first event for the season and picked up the win in the women's open 200 meters (m) dash. She stopped the clocked at 25.79 seconds. Her teammates Deamia Bowe and Marquell Newbold were second and third in that race. Bowe posted 26.66 seconds while Newbold ran 26.87 seconds.
"I got out, maintained and I brought it home," Munroe said. "It feels good to be back after two years and battling injury and I am proud for what I did."
Brianique Strachan secured the win in the women's open 100m race in 12.55 seconds as Bowe was second in 12.67 seconds.
"I haven't been out here for a while and it was not bad. I started out but I have more work to do and I am getting there," Strachan said.
Lauren Stuart second the win in the open women's discus throw with a toss of 27.25m (89' 4-3/4"). Jackson Ozias did not get the job done down the homestretch as he settled for the silver medal in 2:06.08.
Deja Major picked up two silver finishes from the girls under-20 100m and 200m dash races. Major ran 12.51 seconds in the 100m and 26.46 seconds in the 200m dash. Ramiyah O'Brien settled for second in the girls under-20 discus throw with 26.97m (88' 5-3/4").
UB women returns to track and field on Saturday, February 7 at the Devynne Charlton Invitational at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.
