Mingoes cruise to 15-8 victory over Black Scorpions

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes women's softball team scored two in-park homeruns in the second inning en route to a 15-8 victory over the Black Scorpions in the New Providence Softball Association (NPSA) action.

The win was their third consecutive one and their fourth of the season as the All-Star break looms. They now have a 4-4 win/loss record on the season.

Playing at the Bankers' Field, the Mingoes went on a tear in the first inning to take a 10-3 lead to set the tone of the game.

Leading the way for the Mingoes was catcher Syazha Kelly who hit an in-park homerun to rightfield in the second inning to put her team up 13-8. She finished the game 3-for-3 to come away with four runs batted in (RBI) and crossed the home plate three times. Kelly also had a double.

Coming away with the other in-park homerun was shortstop Adonya Stanislaus. Hers came in the second inning also and brought home two other runners. She finished 1-for-2, three RBIs and had three runs.

Overall, the Mingoes finished the game with six hits. The winning pitcher was Mingoes' Keishana Coakley who pitched all three innings.

Next up for the Mingoes is a matchup on Thursday, August 1 against the R&B Operators. That game gets underway at 8.30 p.m.
