It has been a tough start to the calendar year for the University of The Bahamas Mingoes men's soccer team but they were able to topple Future Stars F.C. 5-0 in the Bahamas Men's Soccer League (BMSL) action on Sunday at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.
It was the first win for UB in the BMSL after starting the calendar year with three draws. This match saw them spreading the goals around there were five different players finding the back of the net. Scoring for Mingoes were Clerjivensky Clerjuste, Nahum Johnson, captain Ronaldo Green, Mider Dalmasse and Philip Pilgrim.
Green said he was happy with his team's resilience after they went down to 10 men just before the half.
"We managed the game well after going down a man and was able to score two or three more goals," Green said. "We kept a clean sheet and the guys coach brought in to do the job, got the job done. We need to keep the consistency."
It was a strong start for UB as they dictated the match with their quickness and speed. Green scored in the 21st minute only to have the goal waved off after the referee and his assistant referee had a conference and ruled offside.
Three minutes later, Johnson assisted Clerjuste who quickly shot the ball from outside the 18-yard box before putting the ball into the back of the net.
Clerjuste returned the favor in the 32nd minute when he passed the ball to Johnson who tapped it passed the goalkeeper to put UB up 2-0.
Green who scored eight goals in four matches got on the scoresheet in the 34th minute on a tap in after Clerjuste's shot was blocked. UB led 3-0 at the half.
Mider Dalmasse scored on a breakaway in the 52nd minute when he put the ball out of the goalkeeper's reach to put his side up 4-0. Pilgrim closed the door on Future Stars with a well-placed shot to put his side up 5-0 and come away with the three points to remain undefeated.
