Mingoes fall 2-0 to Atlantis
The University of The Bahamas Mingoes men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Atlantis University at the Kendall Soccer Park in Miami, Florida on Saturday to wrap up their first international trip for the 2025-2026 season.
Playing the second of two games, UB looked to come out aggressive in this one. They had a few early chances, but they never materialized. Alex Thompson, UB's head coach said this the game could have gone differently.
"We started off the game well and we had a few chances early where we could have taken control of the game. Unfortunately, we did not score," Thompson said.
Atlantis was the first to get on the scoresheet with a 24th minute goal to go up 1-0. The two teams had scoring chances the rest of the first half, but none materialized into a goal. The half ended with Atlantis leading 1-0.
Thompson had a good pep talk with his squad during the half-time. They came out attacking as Atlantis were playing defense for most of the second half. It was not until the 88th minute that Atlantis broke down UB's defense and scored again to go up 2-0.
It was too late for a UB comeback as the game ended 2-0.
The scoreline was a contrast from the international season opener last Thursday that saw UB drawing 3-3 with Atlantis. Scoring for UB in that game were freshmen Nahum Johnson (1') and Clerdjivensky Clerjuste (68'), and captain Ronaldo Green (74').
UB will look to bounce back when they take on United International College Thursday October 2 and Saturday, October 4 in South Florida.
