Mingoes hold on for 2-1 victory over Inter BLS

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes men's soccer team got a crucial 2-1 victory over Inter Nassau FC – BLS in their final match before the Christmas break.

The win on Sunday, December 15 has them sporting a 4-2 win/loss record in the Bahamas Football Association's Bahamas Men's Soccer League.

Midfielder Ronaldo Green powered through and scored both goals for UB at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.

UB's captain, Marlon Barnes chalked up the game as a very tough one.

"We handled the game well," Barnes said. "I feel the boys showed character and massive intensity. That is what we must do to win our games. We got our instructions from coach and we were victorious."

It was a tough chess match between the two sides that saw a scoreless first half although UB had most of the possession in the first half. Inter Nassau made it tough for the UB inside the attacking third to keep the game at 0-0.

Coming out the half, UB kept attacking Inter Nassau and was fortunate to secure a free-kick five yards outside the penalty area in the 52nd minute. Green took the penalty in the 53rd minute and sent the ball over the goalkeeper's head - out of reach and into the back of the net to put his side up 1-0 in the 53rd minute.

Unfortunately, that 1-0 lead did not last long as Inter Nassau responded with a goal of their own to tie it up at 1-1.

Green controlled a pass inside the 18-yard box and sent a shot flying past the goalkeeper in the 57th minute as the UB side erupted. That goal put UB up 2-1.

Both teams had their chances for the next 30-plus minutes but in the end UB held on for the 2-1 victory. Barnes was happy to go into the break with the win.

UB have a month's break before they resume action in the league. They will play Cavalier F.C. at 4.30 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2025.
