Mingoes play in inaugural Flamingo tournament

It was an early Saturday for the University of The Bahamas Mingoes men and women's golf teams as they were on the links in the inaugural Women's Golf Day International Event.

The Mingoes had 10 players in the two-man scramble format teeing off at a windy and sunny Bahamas Golf Federation Nine-Hole Golf Facility. Also in action was head coach Fredrick Taylor.

"It was a perfect golf storm," Taylor said. "The players experience what happens with a tournament in terms of delays, tee-times being pushed back and windy conditions. The scores were decent as I saw some rust as time away from the sport can have your skills diminish a little bit but like riding a bike those skills return."

Mia Underwood and Payton Haye finished the highest from the Mingoes as they scored seven over par 34 to place ninth in a five-way tie. They came away with a birdie on hole eight. They even par three holes.

Travis Cartwright and Johnathan McClain were the closest pair to Underwood and Haye with a score of nine over par 36. They finished the round with three even par.

Scoring the same with Cartwright and McClain were Darius Thompson and Terrance Elliott. The duo was able to even par holes eight and nine.

Nashia Dorsett and Thadia Simms were two strokes behind that quartet when they finished 11 over par 38. They were able to even par hole eight.

Rounding out the Mingoes players were Rachel Quant and Shamara Kennedy. They finished 16 over par 43.
Coach Taylor and his partner Miranda Tucker finished third overall after going two-over par 29. They came away with a birdie on holes two and five. They also had an even par on holes one, five, six and seven.
