Bio

Chris Saunders is an experienced journalist with decades of international experience. He is a graduate of Paul Quinn College with a BA in Communication and a graduate of the world famous School of Journalism at The University of Missouri-Columbia with a masters in journalism.

He worked at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas as sports reporter, sports producer, news producer, news reporter, multi-media journalist and news anchor.  Over his 18 years at the corporation he eventually moved up to the post of deputy director of news before moving on to his current post as sports information officer at The University of The Bahamas. He has also worked at KOMU (NBC-8) in Columbia Missouri, The Associated Press, The Dallas Weekly and Atlanta Voice. He holds an adjunct appointment in the School of Communication and Creative Arts at UB where he has been teaching part-time since 2012.

In his spare time, Saunders is an avid sports junkie.  He is a nationally certified basketball referee and an internationally certified statistician and table official. He is working on becoming an international swimming official and has officiated volleyball nationally as well.

Volunteerism is a big part of his life. He currently serves his fraternity locally, regionally and internationally. He is the third state director for the “state” of The Bahamas for his fraternity Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and has served on the Southern Region’s board as the Regional Director of Collegiate Affairs—responsible for chapters in Alabama, The Bahamas, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi.

His connection to God is also very important to him.  The bishop in the Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands has licensed him as a lay reader and chalice bearer.  He is
very active at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Nassau Bahamas and has served on the parish’s vestry for several years.
